What was your fitness background and what brought you to Iron Bridge CrossFit?
I have always been pretty active, but the big bullet points are that I was a swimmer starting at 5 yrs old, through my freshman year of college. I also ran cross country and track in high school. A few years ago, I got into triathlons a little bit, and completed a half iron man.
How has CrossFit improved your life inside and outside the gym?
Crossfit has added nothing but positive things to my life. I was getting so bored and lazy with my workout routine on my own, and crossfit completely re-invigorated me. Not only am I excited about working out again, but it has translated into great results with my overall fitness. I absolutely feel more in shape than I have in a very long time.
What has been your favorite moment at IBCF?
FINALLY being able to a pull up was a pretty big mile stone for me.
WODs and Movements - what are your favorites and what makes your palms sweat?
I really like cleans, and squats, and I am starting to like snatches more and more. Wall balls are just all kinds of awful.
One piece of advice for someone new to CrossFit
Just get in here!!! I was actually a little nervous about starting crossfit because I was a concerned about injury. However, Iron Bridge coaches are amazing, and super dedicated to making sure everyone is using great form and technique.
What keeps you going in a WOD when your mind is telling you to stop?
All of the great people in the class absolutely keep me going in a WOD. I would never push myself as hard on my own as I do surrounded by people pushing and suffering in the gym with me.
Anything else you'd like to add
Crossfit is great, but more than that Iron Bridge is an amazing community to be a part of. The people and the coaches are amazing, and even if I'm having an awful day, I always leave the gym in a much better mood.
Must do in Charleston
I have only lived here a year, so I may not be the best person to ask. But, I love getting a drink and hanging out at Shem creek on nice days.
