From Gym Members to Gym Owners - Thank You for a Wonderful 2017

Tempus Fugit, is Latin for time flies, and it is one of those ancient phrases that made it down through the corridors of time because it is true; time, does indeed fly.

Can you believe we’re already wrapping up the year? If you’re anything like me, you’re reflecting upon your goals for 2017 and planning for 2018. Regardless of your future goals, we’re here to push you (even when you don’t want it), and cheer on your successes.

One lifelong goal that became reality this year was owning my own CrossFit box. Just three short months ago, Donnie and I made the huge decision to purchase Iron Bridge. The unknown can be scary, yet exciting – and this year was no different. Not only did we gain a new gym, but we also made incredible friendships with all of you [our athletes]. I want to first and foremost thank each and every one of the Iron Bridge athletes who welcomed myself, Donnie, Pat, Erin and Candace with open arms. The structure change in the gym was not only an adjustment to us, but to all of you as well.

When we purchased the box, we did so with the goal of creating a space where the best aspects of CrossFit could flourish. Those aspects are fitness and community. Take a moment to think about the last few months and ask yourself these questions:

  • Have you hit any new PRs?

  • Have you improved your Olympic Lifting?

  • Has your cardio improved?

  • Have your gymnastics skills progressed?

  • Have you tried skills you’ve never attempted?

Judging from SugarWOD, we know all of you have been crushing your workouts! I think we can put a checkmark next to the goal of increasing fitness in the box. Apart from workouts, we have enjoyed a cookout, Christmas party, surprise birthday party and a move night with you all. One of my favorite features of Iron Bridge is looking over at our ‘athlete’s lounge’ and seeing people hanging out, talking, planning outings and genuinely enjoying each other’s company.

As we enter into the New Year, we want to continue to see your fitness improve and our community continue to blossom.

Short-Term Goals:

You may have heard us drop the “2018 CrossFit Open” phrase recently. Because yes, it’s almost that time! To help everyone prep, our 6:30 p.m. Monday class will be dedicated to a specific gymnastics skill. This class is open for all Iron Bridge athletes and we encourage you to attend! Each week we will program a WOD that incorporates the skill learned during that Monday gymnastics class. Whether you’re perfecting muscle ups or learning how to kip – this class is for you. Be on the lookout for more information on the class.

Nutrition wise, we are encouraging all members to participate in a 'sugar free' January. We are challenging everyone to evaluate their diets and try to cut out as much sugar as possible during the month. We encourage everyone to track what they're eating every month, whether via a notebook or an app such as MyFitnessPal.

We will also be continuing the tradition of Friday Night Lights during The Open. We’ll hold a cookout after the final WOD to celebrate another grueling, rewarding Open in the books.

Long-Term Goals:

As we look further into the future, goals at the top of our list are building a strong community and caring for our members, both inside and out of the box. We do not want to be in the fitness business, we want to be in the people business. An investment of time and care into you as members will do more to help achieve goals, whether they’re centered on fitness or in life. We hope the box becomes - or continues - to be a place you all look forward to walking into, or the place you don’t want to speed out of the door after your workout.
